Raed Malallah

Dr Raed Malallah is an academic and researcher specialising in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Optics and Photonics, and advanced optical technologies. He received his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, in 2017, specialising in holographic storage and self-written waveguide technologies. He also holds a BSc (1997) and an MSc (2006) in Physics from the University of Basrah, Iraq, with a focus on communication and microwave engineering. With extensive academic experience since 2007, including serving as an Associate Professor of Physics and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr Malallah has developed a multidisciplinary research profile spanning photonics, optical instrumentation, microwave engineering, and applied engineering technologies. His recent research focuses on the development of innovative medical imaging technologies, particularly flexible endoscopy integrating near-infrared fluorescence imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) to support the early detection and characterisation of gastrointestinal cancers. This work explores the potential of advanced optical imaging and AI-assisted analysis to enhance medical diagnostics and support the development of next-generation clinical imaging systems. Through his research, Dr Malallah aims to bridge applied physics, photonics, biomedical engineering, and AI-driven innovation, fostering opportunities for interdisciplinary research, medical technology development, and future collaboration between academia, healthcare institutions, and industry.
